Livestock Owners
The livestock owners of Pune are mainly the residents of rural areas of the districts. They own milking animals, poultry, sheep, goats, buffaloes and cows. The state government of Maharashtra has an administrative department called Animal Husbandry Department under its wing, which is exclusively responsible for the animal welfare, health and allied activities. This department forms and implements the Livestock Policy for all the state districts, including Pune. The veterinary network of Animal Husbandary Department comprises of 28 veterinary polyclinics, 1354 veterinary dispensaries, 2020 veterinary aid centers, 65 mobile veterinary clinics and 13 check posts across all cities of Maharashtra.
Pets and Animals Crematorium
Currently, the animal owners bury their pets in an isolated space due to lack of an exclusive burial ground for animals. To deal with this problem, a separate crematorium for the pets and other animals is in the offering from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) within next few months. This crematorium will have an incinerator instead of a burial ground to dispose all types of dead animals.
