This railway station is located a mere 2 km away from the Pune Railway Station. There is a major demand for increase in the number of services of suburban trains by commuters. Shivaji Nagar Bus Stand Pune
Located right beside the railway station is the Shivaji Nagar Bus Stand. This particular bus stand links Pune to important cities in Maharashtra like Mumbai, Nashik, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Solapur, Satara etc. Luxury air-conditioned buses are also being run by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation between Pune to Mumbai multiple times a day. Shivaji Nagar Station – Swargate Skywalk
The Shivaji Nagar-Swargate Skywalk is a proposed project to join the Shivaji Nagar to Swargate via Shaniwarwada and Mandai Market. The facilities provided on this skywalk will be drinking water, elevator services and escalators and ramps. This skywalk has been proposed with the objective of reducing traffic in Shivaji Nagar and provide a less congested environment for commuting pedestrians.
Culture and Entertainment in Shivaji Nagar
Located in this area on Gokhle Road is the Mahatma Phule Museum. This Museum depicts various industrial products and agricultural and handicraft articles. This Museum was established in 1890 by the name of Lord Ray Museum. An interesting peculiarity of this museum is that it has an array of samples of the body structures of all animals ranging from something as mammoth as an elephant to the smallest of fish. The Mahatma Phule Museum is easily accessible from all parts of Pune with a hired auto rickshaw.
The Pataleshwar Cave Temple is a rock cut monument of worship carved in the Rashtrakuta period in the 8th Century. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. It has been left incomplete for reasons of either unstable land or political upheavals. However, the ‘lingum’ inside the temple is still worshiped. This temple has been declared a protected monument by the government.
Shivaji Nagar is dotted with little eateries and popular restaurants that offer a range of cuisines from Chinese and Italian to South Indian and both vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare.
