Lavasa Calling... A Quick Getaway

Just a fifty kilometre drive from Pune catapulted us in to a picturesque landscape, an escape from the  humdrums of city life. Lavasa is not just about the scenic panorama it has to offer, for someone like me the journey could be as much exciting as the destination in itself. The mystically unfolding roads, the cascading waterfalls, the magnificent mountains, the breathtaking views, the constant kiss of the clouds, the light drizzle the unplanned stops for the selfies, the ‘garam chai’ moments and much more embellished the journey. It suits the pocket of any travel geek with the experiences it has in store .Our key to beat the crowd was to start early.

The route we followed was  Pune - Chandni Chowk - Paud Road toll - Pirangut - left deviation at Ghotawade Phata - Temghar Lavasa Road - Lavasa Ghat Road - Lavasa City. The road by and large was good, with a few bad patches due to monsoon downpours. There are alternate routes too, we would suggest them as per own convenience and time of day.

Temghar dam is primarily an earth fill and a gravity dam had a breathtaking view. The slight drizzle, the cool breeze that brushed across with the whiff of roasted corns by the road side compelled us for a pit stop. The memorable walk around the dam is still etched in our memories.

Lavasa city
, a well planned architectural delight is set in the Sahayadri mountains along the Warasgaon Lake. The engineering marvels and the dams added to the ‘wow’ factor. A variety of activities catered to tourists - from a quite stroll to the adrenalin gushing rides. Many trippers saddle up their backpack for activities like rappling, rafting, trekking and rock climbing. The nature trail walk left us enthralled with the little streams we discovered - thanks to the monsoon.

Dasave Dam: There are a pail of packages provided by various resorts and water sport zones beginning at prices as low as INR 499/-. Splash pads, archery, angling, swimming, golfing, spa treatments, kayaking, aqua basketball, safari, air rifle shooting caters to all age groups. The water sports at the shores of Dasave dam is exhilarating and a ‘must  try out’ in your check list.

Situated 3000 feet above sea level, enveloped by scenic beauty from all sides provides many frozen moments for the shutter bags. The serene atmosphere, the stretching parks with garden benches and paved walk ways makes it best suited even for those less adventurous tourists to devour their share of nature. The mesmerising promenade walk watching the sun go down was an ethereal awe.
