Famous Buildings in Pune
Most of the buildings in Pune are famous for its British architecture. Film and Television Institute of India, Pune University Building and NDA are some of the buildings worth a visit.The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII)

The academic council of FTII is chosen by a governing council, which is the apex body of the institute. Currently, Mr Saeed Mirza is the chairman of governing council and Mr D J Narain is the director of FTII. Some of the famous personalities who have served as governing council chairman are Shyam Benegal, Mrinal Sen, Mahesh Bhatt, Girish Karnad and Vinod Khanna.
FTII offers many post graduate diploma and certificate courses in various fields of cinema and television such as direction, acting, cinematography, sound recording and design, editing, acting, art and production design, screenplay writing etc. The infrastructure of FTII is at par with international film institutes. It has two studio floors dedicated to film and television each. It also has a multimedia library, book, film and video library, film screens and sports facilities. Over the past few years, FTII has garnered attention from film fraternity and movie lovers due to the annual film festival that it hosts every year in Pune.

Pune University Building

Established in 1948, Pune University is the oldest educational institute in the city. It is spread over an area of more than 400 acres with a huge campus for students. It offers various educational courses to students who are interested to study here. Every year, it attracts thousands of students from Maharashtra and other states. There are many colleges and other educational institutes which have their affiliation with Pune University.
The architecture of the building is a major tourist attractions and often frequented by visitors on a daily basis.
The university is open from 10.25 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. There is a lunch break from 1.45 p.m. to 2.15 p.m. All the administrative offices are closed on 1st and 3rd Saturday and public holidays.

National Defense Academy

Just in front of Sudan Block, there is a 30 feet high Ashoka Pillar, an adaptation of the one at Sarnath. On the west side of Sudan Block, you will find Hut of Remembrance built in the memory of all those NDA alumni who sacrificed their lives for the country. The Habibullah Hall is a huge auditorium with two storeys and can accommodate upto 1700 people. Various internal events of NDA are held here.
The NDA museum is the largest inter service museum of India. It has more than 1600 splendid exhibits from different walks of NDA. The institute also boasts of a massive library names after T N Vyas who served as principal of NDA for 15 years. The Khetarpal parade ground will take your breath away with its sheer size and dimension. Bombay Stadium is the name given to NDA stadium in honour of the earstwhile Bombay state which gifted Khadakwasla land to NDA. In the north east of Khadakwasla lake, there is Peacock Bay which is used for water based training of NDA cadres. A few other prominent places to see in NDA are Rakesh Sharma Block, Manoj Pandey Block, Officers Mess, Equitation Lines, Squadron Building, Social Science Block, Pashan Gate and Gole Market. The panoramic view in and around the academy attracts tourists from all over the country. However, a prior permission is required to visit the place.
Yoga Institute

There are various institutions under his name in the country. The RIMYI was constructed in the memory of Smt Ramamani Iyengar, the wife of B K S Iyengar. The RIMYI building is an innovative construction in itself because it is designed to represent yoga. It has three floors, each of them representing body, mind and soul. Similarly, the height of the building is restricted to 71 feet and 8 columns to symbolize eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga.
The institute offers various short term and long term courses in yoga. If you visit the insides of RIMYI, you will get to see the information on life and history of B K S Iyengar, awards and recognition granted to the institute and a huge library with about 8000 titles in different languages.
